Masterful Mindsets ~ Clear the Clutter Part 1: Spring Clean Your Space
Question:
Do you have piles of clutter in your home or work environment? Do you have drawers, cabinets or closets that are overflowing? Do you know how this clutter is REALLY affecting you? Are you ready to do some Spring Cleaning?
Action Challenge:
When you clear the clutter, it does more than just look nice. Spring clean your space for better energy, focus, productivity, success, peace and more…
When you allow things to clutter up your space it can actually cause you to become distracted, lose focus and become less productive. Not to mention the negative energy that piles and piles of clutter can create. So it’s more important than you might think to clear the clutter from your life. Doing so can make a huge difference in your overall success and well-being.
My challenge to you this week is to do some spring cleaning and clear the clutter from your space! Pick one location, pile, drawer, closet, cabinet, etc and get started using my Quick Sort Method below. (For the sake of this example, we’ll use a “pile of papers” from your desk.)
Begin by setting a timer and quickly sorting through the pile making three smaller piles. The piles will be as follows:
- Definitely Don’t Want or Need – This stuff goes in the trash! Get rid of it immediately.
- Definitely Do Want or Need – This is stuff you will keep. The key here is to PUT IT AWAY where it belongs as soon as you are done with the quick sort. So if it needs to be filed, file it. If it needs to be boxed up, mailed, etc… do it! Put it where it goes.
- Maybe/Needs Reviewed – This is the pile that usually causes us the post trouble. It’s because we need to take the time to read through it or we aren’t certain what to do with it, that we start making piles in the first place. For the sake of this first quick sort, you simply make a pile of these things.
Once you’ve completed your first quick sort, you will hopefully have less than half remaining in the third pile. This is when you do your second quick sort – of this pile only. You should probably allow the same amount of time because you will need to pay more attention to this pile but it will be more manageable at this point since you’ve already cleared through the easy stuff. Then hopefully, finishing this second sort will have you feeling accomplished and motivated to clear more clutter from your life. It’s amazing how good it feels to clear the clutter.
Now, let the spring cleaning begin!
