Masterful Mindsets – The False Pursuit of Balance
Question: Have you been fooled by the constant false pursuit of balance in your life? How can you shift to strive for harmony instead?
Action Challenge:
There is a common misconception that if we can just find balance in our lives, we’d be happy and at peace. I’ll admit, I used to be someone who believed that. But what I realized over the years is that the false pursuit of balance can be frustrating and disappointing. Why? Because for one, it’s unrealistic. And two, it’s unnecessary.
Let me explain…
To have balance, it would mean that there were different sides and that everything would need to be equal. Think of a scale. You would need to put equal parts on each side in order for it to be balanced. When it comes to the things that are most important to you in your life, you don’t want them on different sides…you want them working together, in harmony.
In addition, the belief that balance requires equal time and energy is an illusion. The reality is, when we allow things that don’t really matter to take up too much time and energy in our lives, that’s when we feel unsettled and unsatisfied.
See, it’s not the imbalance of life that will get you down – it’s doing meaningless things that aren’t taking you where you want to go. The more you allow meaningless things to steal your time and energy, the more you feel out of alignment. But when you focus on and pursue what you are passionate about, then you have less internal struggle and more harmony in your life.
If you make passion a priority – passion for relationships, for work, for self – your energy intensifies in those areas. And when your energy is more focused, you begin to put less value on the things that don’t really matter.
My challenge for you is to re-evaluate what you are spending your time and energy on. Is it the really important things that make your heart soar with passion? Once you get clear about what you have the most passion and love for, be sure you are spending the majority of your time and energy in those areas. If not then figure out what you need to eliminate so that you can be in direct proportion with your time and energy for the things that are and are not important to you. Letting go of what’s not important will help you to create harmony with what matters most in your life, And it is there, that you will find true happiness and peace.
