Masterful Mindsets ~ Mammos Aren’t Monsters

“May you have the courage of a mighty warrior when fighting the greatest battles of your life.” ~ Michelle Weimer

Question:

When was the last time you had a checkup? When was the last time you really made your health a priority? What do you need to do to ensure you are can live your life to it’s best potential by having the greatest health possible?

Action Challenge:

This month we are talking about the things that scare us and how to have courage….

So, to kick off the month, since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I want to talk about health. I’ll be honest, after losing my mom to cancer when she was in her early 40s and I was just a little girl, cancer scares the hell out of me. But I also know that avoiding the topic doesn’t make it go away. If anything, having the courage to not ignore your body or avoid getting regular checkups, could be the thing that makes the difference between life and death.

My dad always said that without your health, you have nothing. And I think it’s true because without your health, the other things in life don’t matter so much. Yet so many people ignore and neglect their health. They avoid doing what it takes to ensure their greatest potential for optimal health. They ignore symptoms and they avoid getting regular checkups or age appropriate screenings. Often because they are afraid of what they might find out or they worry that the doctor might tell them that they need to exercise more and drink less. (Something they probably already know.)

I’ve heard women say that they are scared of getting a mammogram. Or they think it will be painful. But I will guarantee it’s a lot less painful than treatment might be. It’s a lot less scary then getting a diagnosis that it’s too late to do something about your health. So, just have courage and get checked! Which leads me to this week’s challenge.

The challenge is very simple… if you are a woman 40 or over, please make an appointment to get checked. And if you are not quite there yet, or you are a male, it doesn’t make you exempt from taking care of yourself. Know what you need so you can commit to getting an age/gender appropriate screening or regular checkup. And make a commitment this month to encourage women you know who do fall into the 40 and over category, to get a mammogram. Early detection is one of the greatest weapons a person can have when battling any illness.

And if you are someone who is already fighting the battle of cancer or some other health illness, please know that I will be sending a silent prayer daily, that you may have the courage of a mighty warrior to fight your battle.
