Masterful Mindset – Sneaky Bad Habits that Drain Your Energy

“People with purpose and goals have no time for drama. They invest their energy in things that will add value to their life and others.” ~Unknown

We all know that there are those common bad habits like not getting enough sleep, not eating healthy, poor stress management, etc. that can steal your energy. And yes, sadly even though we know we could be doing better, by improving those habits, common sense isn’t always common practice. So many people find they don’t have the energy they need to be as happy and productive as they’d like.

But what about those sneaky little bad habits that maybe you don’t even realize are draining your energy? That’s what I’ll be talking about today as we finish up this month’s series on Energy.

Take a look at the list below and think about how often you engage in these bad habits. Odds are, like with most habits, you do them without even thinking about what you are doing. They may be reactive responses or simply automatic behavior that you’ve learned. Whatever the case, they are usually the result of a negative experience or belief. And although they were probably created subconsciously, if you don’t make a conscious effort to change them, they will remain part of your MO (Mode of Operation) and they will continue to suck the life out of you. So if you are feeling drained, start paying attention to how often you engage in these sneaky bad habits.

Common Sneaky Bad Habits that Drain Your Energy

  1. Taking things personally.
  2. Holding on to the past.
  3. Comparing yourself to others.
  4. Overthinking everything.
  5. Fueling drama.
  6. Complaining all the time.
  7. Having a negative attitude or outlook.
  8. Gossiping about others.
  9. Excessively worrying about the future.
  10. Being a people pleaser.
  11. Being judgmental.
  12. Lying to yourself or others.
  13. Dwelling on the problem rather than focusing on solutions.

I have no doubt that you are someone with goals and a greater purpose in life then living negatively and caged. So it’s time to start breaking the sneaky bad habits that are draining your energy and instead, invest that energy in the things that really matter.

Asking yourself powerful questions is a great way to refocus your thoughts and shift these types of habits. When you become aware that you are engaging in sneaky bad habits like these, try a few quick questions to consciously reset those habits so they no longer drain your energy:

Is it important? Is it necessary? Can I fix it? Is it really mine to own? How is this serving me? What is the tough truth and how can I change it? Am I being present, pleasant and positive? Where is my focus?
