Masterful Mindset – Strength In Overcoming
Strength doesn’t come from what you can do. It comes from overcoming the things you once thought you couldn’t. ~ Rikki Rogers
Question:
When in your life have you felt the strongest? The most empowered? Have you ever felt that you didn’t have the strength to get through something that was occurring in your life? (Maybe you’re feeling that way right now.)
Action Challenge:
We’ve all experienced events in our lives when we just didn’t think we would possibly have the strength to get through, and yet we did. I look back on the eight years my husband and I dealt with infertility and I can remember many times thinking I didn’t have the strength to endure another unsuccessful treatment or heartbreaking negative pregnancy test. Yet, month after month and year after year, we found the strength to keep trying.
If you really think about it… you’ll probably recall times when you’ve overcome an obstacle or reached a goal you weren’t sure you could actually do. Strength comes from those moments when you look the fear of failure in the eyes and declare to take action anyway, in spite of the fear or the risk. Strength shines through in the moments you feel you’ve reached your breaking point and can’t possibly go on.
Your strength – your true inner strength – is always there. Always waiting to be called upon. SO call on it – every time – call on it when you are feeling scared, overwhelmed, lonely, exhausted, hopeless, whatever – call on it – it’s there. And that strength that you find when you do overcome whatever challenges or difficulties you are facing… that strength continues to grow.
Call on your inner strength today, to help you accomplish something you think you can’t do. Whether it be one more push-up in your morning workout or confronting a co-worker who has been bullying you. Take a deep breath and trust that you really do have the strength to overcome whatever it is you are feeling today that is holding you back from being your best true you.
My challenge to you this week is to tap into your inner strength. Know what your strength looks, feels and acts like for you. It may be speaking empowering words to yourself. (See my blog post on Talking to Yourself for more on this.) It may be in taking a risk, stepping out of your comfort zone. Sometimes the greatest strength comes in admitting we need help. So ask for help.
If there is something going on in your life right now that you need strength to get through, then it’s time to call upon your inner strength to reach that place that you currently believe you can’t reach. Breathe deeply, ground yourself and speak words of courage to yourself. Let your inner strength carry you farther than you thought you could go.
Here’s to finding the strength that you never knew you had. It’s there – call on it. Then watch it grow.
