In our daily lives, we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful, but the gratefulness that makes us happy.”  ~ Albert Clarke

Do you ever take the time to appreciate beauty in small things? When was the last time you put yourself first and took care of yourself in a small way so that you could refocus and be better for the world around you? (A little time out is often all we need to regenerate.) When was the last time you did something small for another person to brighten their day?

We take for granted how important the small things really are. We think that if we could just make something big happen then our lives would be just what we want. Whether that is getting a promotion, finding love or some other great destiny we have planned for our lives. What we forget is that without the small things, we would not enjoy the big things near as much. We may think we can get along in this world on our own but don’t you think the small things are what make life worthwhile? I believe that if we do want to make big things happen, we must first pay attention to the small stuff.

Maybe for you the small stuff is a call from a close friend, a wagging tail from your dog when you come home, a walk through a beautiful park full of flowers, a caramel latte or a warm breeze blowing on your face to dry your tears after you’ve been let down. Whatever those small things are, they make a difference in your life and they are the things to focus on in order to give us the positive energy we need to move forward.

As Thanksgiving approaches it is a wonderful opportunity for us to be thankful for the little things in life that are important. I would like to challenge you to spend some time thinking about the things happening in your life and focus on the small things that make them better or bearable. Maybe even make your own list of the little things that make life worthwhile for you. It is a great reminder of how important those little things are. And chances are, one day you will look back and realize that they were actually the big things…

I hope this post has inspired you to be in constant gratitude. That which we focus on expands, so why not focus on our blessings?

Comment below and tell me what you’re thankful for!

Bet you can guess what my greatest blessings are!
