Masterful Mindsets – Love of Work is True Success… Happy Labor Day!

“Let us realize that: the privilege to work is a gift, the power to work is a blessing, the love of work is success!”  ~ David O. McKay

Question:

Do you work hard and show up fully committed to your job every day? Do you love what you do? Or do you go to work every day with a negative attitude and disdain for your job?

Action Challenge:

For most of us, we will spend the largest part of our lifetime working. I started working when I was 14 years old at a family owned ice-cream shop. It was a fun job and hey, I got free ice-cream and pizza all the time. From that point forward, I continued to work, experiencing several different jobs along the way. Outside of some time off after having my children, I’ve worked my entire life.

Of course my most rewarding careers have been after college – being a school counselor for ten years and then starting my own coaching business in 2005. I have to say that after almost 15 years as a personal transformation and success coach and now a Certified High Performance Coach, I know without a doubt that I’m living my dream job. I love what I do! Sure, sometimes it is hard work, sometimes I have to do things I don’t love doing, and sometimes I work long hours. But all in all – I do see that work is a blessing for me and I love it, so in my book, that is success! And let’s face it, if we are all going to spend the majority of our lifetime working, we might as well be doing something we love and finding the joy and blessings in that work.

My challenge to you this week is to take some time to reflect on the work you are doing in your life right now. Think about the parts of it that are rewarding and the parts that are not. Does the good outweigh the bad? Are you happy doing what you’re doing? Are you living your life’s purpose? If not then what would you like to be doing? What would it take for you to be doing something you love and are passionate about? Maybe it’s time to go back to school. Maybe it’s time to polish up your resume. And maybe, it’s just time to remember why you started doing what you’re doing. Get the passion back and gain a renewed send of love for your job. Whatever the case, if you don’t feel you love your work or that it’s your life’s purpose, then it is time to take action to change that. And if you do find after reflecting on your work that you love it, well then – Congratulations! That is the true meaning of success!

Happy Labor Day!
